Now that the weather is heating up and were in the midst of the 2012 wedding season, here are a few last minute tips to make sure your floral wedding decor has those memorable added personal touches.

-A great way to link your flowers with the colors you've chosen to accent your big day is to ask your florist to wrap the stems of the bouquets in a complimentary or contrasting satin. This will ensure that the colors of the flowers are fully enhanced.

-Get inventive with everyday household objects to add a personal flare to your table decor. Use empty jars or cans of your favorite foods or drinks to get that shabby sheik feeling.

-For a another personal touch add edible flowers to accent your signature cocktail or add a floral twist to champagne glasses.

All these little things will give your wedding a very personal touch that will leave your guests in awe. Don't be surprised if they steel an idea or two for their upcoming celebrations.

April Showers!

It goes without saying that without April showers, our gardens might wind up a little lackluster.  So far April hasn't been to bad weather wise, and if you look closely some of those spring blooms are popping up. It won't be too long before the city is full of colorful blooms.  Lets not get ahead of ourselves though, it's still April and many people have been asking us what the the flower of the month is.  It's the Daisy. Although it might not be the most expensive or the most exotic flower it's still a classic that is loved by many worldwide. They are said to be the symbol of innocence as well as to be void of guilt or sin. Some also attach the symbolism of truth to daisies. It can be said that when they are passed on to someone they stand for the transfer of secrets from the giver to the receiver.  We all know the old trick of pulling petals one by one and saying "he loves me, he loves me not" Each petal can be said to capture the language of love. Did you also know that daisies are edible and are often used in salads. It's interesting to know that one of the most simple flowers can be associated with so many different ideas.  So next time you see a daisy growing wild, or at the flower shop, remember that sometimes simple doesn't always have to mean plain or boring.

Peonies

One of the most sought after flowers in a wedding bouquet is the Peony.  Every year, brides come in with beautiful pictures of bouquets that they have found online or in magazines.  In many instances, those bouquets showcase this beautiful and lush flower. In some cases as the focal point of a mixed hand tied bouquet, or even on there own as a loose collection of garden blooms. Unfortunately what is unknown to most brides is that the peony is only available for a very short time span, sometimes only a few weeks between May and June in Canada.  Since so many flowers are available year round, it's hard to believe that the peony isn't.  The reason for limited availability is because peonies, unlike most flowers, do not grow well in greenhouses.  They need to be grown outdoors, leaving them at the mercy of fluctuating weather conditions. If there are perfect weather conditions the yields are high and the prices stay relatively normal, however, if the weather doesn't co-operate then there are fewer to be had and the cost is driven upwards.  There is also no way of knowing ahead of time what will happen.  So if peonies are on your list of must have flowers for your wedding day May is the best time to set your date and it's probably best to discuss substitution options, as you never know what the weather will bring.

Tips and Suggestions!

Planning a wedding can be a lot of work so we've come up with a few tips and hints that can hopefully help you along the way, when it comes to your flowers anyway!

Choosing flowers for your bouquet can be a fun and enjoyable experience. Here are some things to consider.

When choosing a wedding date, one might not consider flowers right away.  However, remember, there are many floral holidays over the year that can drive price up and availability down. It might not be an option, but  if it is, it could prove wise to avoid Mother's Day, Valentines Day and Christmas.

If you're contemplating black and white photography, you might want to look at flowers that will stand out well in that medium, larger blooms with a 3D quality would be a good option. Also, if you have a pale complexion it can be said that brighter flowers could prevent you from looking dull or washed out.

One more important tip. When you are choosing where and how to decorate with flowers, always check with your venue as to any rules or restrictions that may apply.  For example,  some churches may not allow tape to be used on the pews, or petals to be thrown down the aisle.  Most venues are fairly open to most floral decor options, but its' better to be safe than sorry.

Happy Planning!

Planning Your Wedding?

With the weather heating up it's hard to believe that it's only March. That being said, your wedding may be fast approaching. Now is the best time to get out and make an appointment to discuss all your wedding flower options. With only one big floral holiday to come, were ready to talk wedding flowers.

With so many styles and blooms to choose from, it can be hard to narrow down the perfect flowers to create your one of kind bridal bouquet and floral decor.  We want to work with you to create flowers that reflect the vision that you are working so hard to perfect.

The process is fairly straight forward and starts with a consultation. It usually takes between a half hour to an hour.  We'll start by discussing the details of the location, your vision for the bridal party as well as what elements of floral decor you are interested in for the ceremony and reception.  We will also touch on some logistical information such as delivery or pick up options as well as your budget. If you have any pictures or swatches, bring them in, they can be great tools in the search for the perfect blooms.

It's that easy!!! All you have to do is make the appointment, well guide you through the rest.

Good Luck in the planning process and we hope to hear from you soon. Don't forget, we're just as excited as you to choose the perfect blooms for your one of kind day!!!!!

Fall Weddings

I LOVE when the bride matches the bridesmaids bouquets exactly to hers! It allows for a much more streamline look. Gorgeous! The bride chose orange Gerbera daisies, Mango mini Callas, red Dahlias all nestled into ivory hydrangea with loops of Lily grass. Absolutely beautiful!
The groom and groomsmen wore a simple, but elegant Mango mini Calla boutonniere

This is an example of a simple and inexpensive flower girl bouquet that has a lot of character (just like the flower girl!). This bouquet is made up of orange Carnations and yellow Vyking mums.

This bride's bouquet is made up of Mango mini Callas and Vandella Roses. The Pearl gems were a nice personal touch and really tied the callas and roses together.
The bridesmaids bouquets were made up of orange Roses and Mango mini Callas.

This was my favourite bouquet this season. It was made up of Baby green Hydrangea, beautiful white Dahlias, Tibet Roses, green Hypericum berries, white Wax flower, Seeded Eucalyptus, Fiddle heads, mini Pinecones, and leather leaf fern with loops of fresh curly willow around the outside. It has such a mystical, woodsy feel. Love this!
